Business education of Hohai University has gone through a hundred years of vicissitudes and has been forging ahead. It is one of the earliest higher education institutions in China to establish a business discipline. It can be traced back to the establishment of the Hehai Engineering Specialized School in 1915. After 1927, the Hehai Engineering University established a business specialized program, and in 1979, the East China Water Conservancy College resumed business education. In 1983, the school established a water conservancy and power management engineering major, and in 1984, the management engineering department was established. In 1994, the International Business School was established. In 2004, the International Business School and the School of Technology and Economics were restructured to form a business school. In 2020, the business school and the School of Enterprise Management were integrated into a new business school.

The college takes seeking global knowledge and becoming a business elite as its educational purpose, river and sea characteristics, world-renowned as its strategic positioning, high-level, international, mainstream, and distinctive as its development path, and education, scientific research, consulting, and training as its development model. Teachers and students work together, strive for excellence, and innovate. It has become a well-known business with two major disciplines: management and economics, integrating business management, management science and engineering, and applied economics. It’s a famous college with a postdoctoral mobile station, and has the ability to cultivate multi-level and multi type talents such as doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchange and cooperation.

The college has a relatively complete disciplinary and professional system and levels, and has two postdoctoral mobile stations: Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering; Doctoral degree granting points for two first level disciplines: Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering; Master's programs in five primary disciplines: Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering, Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, and Information Resource Management, as well as seven professional master's programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering Management (MEM), Accounting (MPAcc), Asset Appraisal, International Business, Finance, and Library and Information Technology; There are 5 national first-class undergraduate majors in Human Resource Management, Accounting, Marketing, Information Management and Information Systems, and Engineering Management, 2 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors in Business Administration, International Economics and Trade, as well as 10 undergraduate majors in Financial Management, Financial Engineering, and Big Data Management and Application. Among them, technology, economy, and management are national key (cultivation) disciplines, key disciplines of the Ministry of Water Resources, and key disciplines of Jiangsu Province. Business administration is a key first level discipline of Jiangsu Province, and engineering management and project management are key disciplines of Jiangsu Province. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, two disciplines, Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration, were approved as B+, ranking in the top 20% of the country. The two disciplines of Business Administration and Management Science and Engineering have been approved for the construction project of Jiangsu University's advantageous disciplines.

In recent years, the quality of student training in the college has been continuously improving, which has had a relatively wide impact both on and off campus. In 2019, it won one first prize in the Challenge Cup Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition and one second prize in the Internet plus Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The college focuses on international certification and continues to strengthen its international level construction. It has successively passed AMBA&BGA, PMI-GAC, and IPMP certifications. The college has become the first AMBA&BGA double certified institution in Jiangsu and has been authorized as an international project manager (IPMP) talent training base. In 2022, the college successfully passed the AACSB international certification for Eligibility Application qualification application, taking a significant step towards high-quality development and internationalization. The college is located in Nanjing and Changzhou, with superior hardware facilities and complete research conditions. The total area of the College Literature and Information Center is 2300 square meters, with a reading area of 1100 square meters and a professional collection of over 50000 books. Research oriented laboratory platforms such as the college data center, business data laboratory, management behavior laboratory, competitive intelligence laboratory, BIM and engineering digital laboratory, as well as teaching oriented experimental platforms that have become the demonstration center for economic management experiments in Jiangsu Province, can provide interdisciplinary research and teaching experiments.
