On July 3, the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province published the listing of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province approved to construct research centers for international issues, where the “International River Research Center” led by Professor Zhou Haiwei from Hohai University was approved for construction.

Building a group of research centers for international issues by the colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province aims to carry out the spirits in the Opinions from the Ministry of Education on Deepening and Promoting the Development of Philosophy and Social Science in Colleges and Universities forwarded by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, as well as the Opinions of the Provincial Department of Education and Provincial Department of Finance about Implementing Deep Promotion of the Development of Philosophy and Social Science in Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province (2012-2020), to conduct researches on international and regional issues in a planned, focused and specific manner and build a group of think tanks with influence on international issues. China has 15 major international rivers, ranking the third worldwide in terms of quantity. The International River Research Center will conduct research in relevant fields, firmly focusing on the strategic requirements imposed by China socialist modernization and the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. The center will constantly produce research deliverables of significance, value and influence to serve for diplomatic strategies of the nation to make it have a say in international issues. The center will also proactively contribute to improvement of the cultural soft power and comprehensive strength of China as well as effective implementation of international strategies.

A total of 9 research centers initiated by the colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province were approved to be constructed, while another 6 were identified to be backup projects subject to further cultivation.
